The photo book: “What We Wear” has won a bronze medal at the annual book design competition “Best Books from all over the World”. In 2012, an independent international jury again convened in Leipzig with the task of selecting fourteen outstandingly designed books from 540 of the best books from 31 countries. The award ceremony and reception takes place at Leipzig Book Fair on March 16th, 2012 at the exhibition stand of the Stiftung Buchkunst.
Jury report:
The voyage that our everyday clothes have made around the globe is captured here in a moving and stimulating book – a voyage that begins right from the way the book is bound. “What We Wear” is driven by a journalistic impetus of rare force which allows the reader to share in the photographer’s experiences. This gigantic leporello fold-out is nothing short of a road movie made up of stationary pictures – just printed on paper rather than projected onto a screen. Astonishing variety in handling and page turning mean that our hands do not just touch the paper but truly reach into the pictures themselves. These documentary, revelatory pictures encourage us to look with a sharper eye at what we buy, where our clothing comes from and, above all, who actually made it.
